The WATCH Disaster Relief list is designed to help coordinate the academic medical community's clinical efforts in the aftermath of the earthquake in Haiti. Coordination of all medical response efforts on the ground now is critical to saving lives and providing a purposeful humanitarian response.

Gaps in medical care must be avoided and medical efforts must not be duplicated.

By registering your academic medical response team here, you may be helping the lead organization, UN OCHA better coordinate this effort. Please note that this site is not directly linked to any UN organization or NGO. It is our hope that this publicly available central database will readily identify those in the academic community who are able to respond and have them contacted directly by formal organizations who can use their expertise and put them to work without delay. When you are ready, click "Register Now" to register.

If you are a hospital able to RECEIVE patients from Haiti, click “Hospital Registration” to add your contact details and how many patients of which specialty area you are able to receive.

Both of these lists will be directly communicated to the UN Health Cluster lead in Haiti. (listed below).

Key points you need to know:
  1. As with all sovereign states, the government of Haiti retains responsiblity for the care of its nationals.
  2. In this state of crisis, the government of Haiti has invited and accepted international aid and assistance.
  3. Ultimate coordination of all relief efforts is via the United Nations (UN) system.
  4. The lead agency for OVERALL COORDINATION of the disaster relief effort on the ground is:
    • UN OCHA - The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs
  5. The UN Inter-Agency Standing Committee (IASC) has activated its "Cluster system" (health, water, sanitation, shelter and logistics) and has leads in all clusters. All Cluster leads, including the Health cluster, report to UN OCHA

In order to integrate your expertise and abilities into the coordinated relief effort please do TWO things:
  1. Contact one of the UN Health Cluster leads listed below:
